Downloading

Almost all of the material in The Preserve is made accessible for free. Objects can be searched and viewed natively through the repository but can also be downloaded for local and offline use. On an object page, the download field can be found below the viewer, on the right side of "About" section.

The types of files available for download will depend on the format of object, differing from photos, books, videos, and other item types. The different download types are described below:

  • Thumbnail Image- A small version of the object used as a visual preview
  • Original File- The file that was uploaded to the repository. This will always be the highest quality version available for download. For book objects, this file will be a PDF combining all of the original pages uploaded.
  • Service File- A version of the file created by the repository to make online viewing easier. This file will usually be more compressed or reduced in quality to achieve a smaller file size.

The image viewer can also be used to download individual items or pages from books. Clicking on the three vertical dot menu in the top menu of the viewer reveals a "Download" option.

Clicking on that menu item brings up a window with options to download the image in various sizes.

If you do not see any download options then the item has likely been restricted to online use only
