What is Plagiarism?
Plagiarism is the copying of another’s work or ideas. Plagiarism is against R-CCC’s Student Code of Conduct and it is against the law to plagiarize in the state of North Carolina.
North Carolina Law § 14‑118.2
- § 14‑118.2. Assisting, etc., in obtaining academic credit by fraudulent means" It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, corporation or association to assist any student, or advertise, offer or attempt to assist any student, in obtaining or in attempting to obtain, by fraudulent means, any academic credit, grade or test score, or any diploma, certificate or other instrument purporting to confer any literary, scientific, professional, technical or other degree in any course of study in any university, college, academy or other educational institution."
RCCC Student Code of Conduct
- RCCC Course Catalog"Academic dishonesty is regarded by the College as a breach of academic ethics and deserves consequences. Academic dishonesty includes acts such as cheating, plagiarism, knowingly furnishing false information, forgery, alteration, or any use of identification or other projects with an intent to defraud." (17).
As a student of RCCC, you must adhere to the student code of conduct.
What is Copyright?
Copyright is a set of rights granted to creators by the state. For a limited amount of time, these rights protect the creator against the copying, distribution or adaptation of his/her work in exchange for eventual public disclosure of the work.
