Internal Grant Opportunities

Academic Innovation Fund

The Office of Academic Affairs will set aside a total of $100,000 per academic year to support faculty development and innovation in the academic sector.  Full time faculty are welcome to apply for funding in the following four categories (priority will be given to new applicants over recent recipients):

1. AIF mini grant up to $1000:  Proposals supported by these grants include, but are not limited to: classroom instruction, course materials, guest speakers, field trips, admission fees, interdisciplinary collaborations—just about any idea that you believe will enhance the academic experience at NU. 

Due dates:

  • April 15 for projects between June 1 and December 31, 2024
  • October 15 for projects between January 1 and May 31, 2025

2. Student travel up to $500:  Faculty may apply for grants up to $500 to support travel expenses for a student who is presenting research at a conference.

Due dates:

  • April 15  for travel between June 1 and December 31, 2023.
  • October 15 for travel between January 1 and May 31, 2024.

3. Strategic Initiative Grant up to $5000:  Faculty may request support between $1,000 and $5,000 for an academic initiative directly tied to the University’s strategic plan.  Your proposal must include a full description of the initiative, a precise explanation as to how the initiative supports the University’s strategic plan,

Due date:  April 15 for a project that runs between June 1, 2024  and May 31, 2025

4.  Academic Master Grant above $5,000: Please submit a formal written proposal using the Academic Master Grant application.  Your proposal must include a full description of the initiative, a precise explanation as to how the initiative supports the University’s strategic plan, expected outcomes, and a detailed list of anticipated expenses.  Master Grant proposals will first be reviewed by the requestor’s Dean, who will prioritize all Master Grant requests from his or her college, and select which one(s) to forward to the selection committee through assocprovost@niagara.edu.

Due date:  April 15 for a project that runs between June 1, 2024  and May 31, 2025
