PSA TEMPLATE

GUIDELINES & EXPECTATIONS

Your objective for this paper is to respond to and discuss the research question : WHAT IS THE VALUE OF EDUCATION?

Components for this project include:

  1. Working Bibliography
    •    Using Noodle Tools you will create a Working Bibliography that will include no less than 5 citations for journal articles that support your position and answer the research question.
    •    The Working Bibliography should include citations for the most recent educational research as found using the provided databases.

         2.  Strong Thesis

    • The thesis statement must consist of two components:
      •   The topic of your paper.
      •   Your position on the topic / answer to the research question.
    • All research included in the paper must serve to advance/support the thesis.

         3.  In-text Citations

    • All researched information must be cited properly using MLA formatting.
    • NoodleTools must be used in order to generate properly formatted in-text citations.

         4.  Works Cited

    • The Works Cited page need only include ONE of the sources from your working bibliography.  However, you may use more than one source from your working bibliography if you feel it necessary to do so.

         5.  Length

    • Minimum of 5 paragraphs
    • Maximum of 2 pages

PARAGRAPH DEVELOPMENT

The More You Know PSA

A public service announcement is a short video message that attempts to raise awareness about and change public attitude toward a single issue.

Generally, PSAs include or follow most, if not all, of the following elements

  • are short (usually 60 seconds or less)
  • present one single issue
  • inform the viewer of key, relevant facts
  • have a clear call to action (usually indicated through text on screen)
  • might or might not include people
  • might  or might not use music
  • sometimes use voice-overs
  • sometimes use special effects (like black and white)
  • might use transitions/editing to enhance the video
  • aim to leave a lasting impact

Your GOAL...

Create a PSA that supports your viewpoint on the purpose of education as presented in your essay.

Requirements

  • No less than 30 seconds, no more than 60 seconds in length
  • At least 1 interesting statistic or fact
  • At least 1 creative element (background, music, voice over, special effect etc.)
  • Call to action or lasting impression through the use of a slogan / catch phrase
  • YOU must be in your PSA!
